Deantastic Photoblog is the photoblog of one Dean Lozarie, a 14-year-old blogger and feature writer from Southern Philippines. His photographic apparatus is by no means professional. Nevertheless, he somehow has the arrogant perception that he can take good pictures. Leave him be.

Dean has a couple of photographic apparatus that aids him in his picture-taking.

iPhone 3G

The iPhone 3G’s camera is mediocre at best. It’s 2-megapixels without macro or autofocus. Not even flash. Given those facts, Dean uses the iPhone 3G only for simpler shots and whenever he doesn’t have his main camera on hand.

Canon PowerShot A650 IS

The Canon PowerShot A650 IS is Dean’s main camera. He likes to call it a DSLR trapped in the body of a point-and-shoot. It has a 12.1-megapixel CCD sensor, 6x optical zoom, flash, and all the goodies photo buffs enjoy in their single-lens reflex cameras: aperture priority, shutter priority, ISO settings, and the all-important manual focus. There’s a trade-off, though: manual focusing is a tedious process, and when you take into account the time it takes to fiddle with all the other settings, that means you need some amount of time to compose your shot—time you might not have. Nevertheless, it has so far served Dean well on his photographic travails.

Nikon DSLR

Dean unfortunately doesn’t own a Nikon DSLR (or any other brand of DSLR, for that matter). However, his first choice for a camera was always the Nikon D40, arguably the best entry-level DSLR out there. He wouldn’t mind the higher-end D60, D80, or D90, however. Hint, hint!
